August 19 marked the beginning of QuakeCon 2021, and appropriately the event was used to announce a 4K remaster of the original Quake. Zenimax is a holding company which owns numerous game development studios including The Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda Game Studios and id Software, the developer of Quake and Doom. Quake's fame and continued relevance is demonstrated by the name of QuakeCon, an annual event which celebrates Zenimax Game Studios and its various different gaming franchises.

While the game was a success, and highly influential for first-person shooters that followed it, numerous rumors of a new Quake game in recent years have all been proven false. Developed by id Software and released in 1996, Quake was the very first first-person shooter to feature fully three-dimensional models and levels. The Steam version of the beloved first-person shooter Quakehas received a free upgrade up to its newly-revealed remastered version.
